Can I Use Tiles For My Patio Project?
Porcelain tiles come in many sizes & finishes, also referred to as porcelain slabs, garden pavers & external cladding – fundamentally it is a Porcelain Tile. Porcelain is made from refined natural materials fired at approx 1200 degrees celsius. The materials & firing make a very dense & hardwearing material which has almost zero water absorption which is where it differs from ceramic tiles.
Whilst ceramic tiles are more than suitable for internal use, such as kitchens & bathrooms, porcelain is a much more hardwearing material. Due to its technical properties, porcelain can be used both internally & externally, allowing you to create stunning, open, easy to clean & maintenance free spaces with functional finishes & no compromise on design quality.

Yes you can – Whilst the trend is for the use of 20mm thickness porcelain slabs there is in fact no reason you cannot use traditional 10mm thickness porcelain floor tiles, its all about the quality of material and the installation method. A 20mm thickens slab often comes in 600×600, 900×600 & larger formats they are highly durable & extremely strong and are usually installed on a MOT base with a wet mortar mix in a similar method to any other paving material. 10mm thickness porcelain floor tiles are also extremely strong & durable and as long as they are installed on a solid concrete base then there is absolutely no reason not to use traditional 10mm thickness porcelain tiles.
Remember when you were on holiday overseas enjoying a drink on the terrace or in a local bar? Perhaps you never noticed but the majority of the flooring materials used externally is porcelain floor tiles they have simply been installed on a solid concrete base.
