Porcelain is a great material when it comes to outdoor paving. Being highly durable and resistant to hot and cold temperatures, it’s a hugely popular option that offers many benefits. However, it’s important to make sure that your outdoor porcelain paving is kept clean and free of debris year round to keep it looking as good as the day it was installed.
So, what’s the big deal? Why is it important to maintain porcelain paving? Aside from making sure it stays looking good, well cared for porcelain paving is more likely to last longer and less likely to suffer from cracks, darkening, or colour spotting from a combination of age and wear and tear.
Luckily, one of the key benefits of using porcelain paving for your garden project is that it is fairly simple to maintain. Generally, an occasional brushing or quick clean with a yard brush & hot soapy water will keep your outdoor porcelain paving looking perfect for many years to come. For more difficult to remove dirt or debris you can use a pressure washer if required. Porcelain tiles are extremely strong and durable and pressure washing will not affect outdoor porcelain paving slabs.
Our team at Premier Porcelain have been providing high quality porcelain paving for our customers for many years, and we know all the best tips and tricks to make sure that you can successfully maintain your paving all year long. This is especially important with winter drawing ever closer, with wet weather and freezing conditions providing a base for increased damage and wear and tear. Where Can Porcelain Paving Be Used?
Porcelain paving comes in a huge variety of colours, designs, and styles, making it incredibly versatile when used outside the home. Though there are many different ways porcelain paving can be used in an outdoor space, we’re here to tell you about the top three ways our customers utilise our stunning porcelain paving slabs to improve the outdoor areas of their home:
Patio Space
A patio is a great place in your garden to lay back and enjoy the warm nights during summer, or can be used for more practical purposes, such as incorporating an outdoor kitchen or activity area. Porcelain is highly durable and great for standing up to high foot traffic and both freezing and hot temperatures.
Garden Paths
As porcelain is so strong and durable, many of our customers have used this stunning outdoor flooring option as a way to create a stunning and decorative garden path without sacrificing on longevity. With many shapes and sizes available, you can create a solid garden path or something more visually fun, such as stepping stones.
Driveways
Porcelain paving is relatively simple to maintain and won’t wear down or stain because of tyre treads from cars coming and going on a daily basis. Dark marks from sliding tyres can be cleaned away with hot, soapy water or power-washed for more stubborn markings. As it is also very strong, it is more than capable of supporting the weight of your vehicle to make them an ideal foundation for your driveway.

Cleaning Your Porcelain Paving
Another reason why porcelain paving is so popular among our customers is that it doesn’t take a lot to keep it looking clean and fresh year round, and cleaning isn’t something that is required regularly – though we recommend a quick clean at least once every 6 months to keep it looking as bright and fresh as the day it was laid. To properly clean your porcelain paving, follow our instructions below:
Remove Debris
Debris can be anything from fallen leaves to rocks, pebbles, or even garden ornaments that have been shifted from their setting in the wind. Carefully sweep away loose dirt and debris so you can accurately see what you’re working with when it comes time to properly clean your porcelain paving – this will also allow you to see any damage such as chips or cracks.
Hot Soapy Water
Fill a dish bowl or bucket with hot soapy water. We recommend using something like washing up liquid – the type you’d use to wash up dirty pots and pans in the home. Washing up liquid is non abrasive and gentle when it comes to cleaning, especially when paired with a soft and gentle sponge moved in circular motions to clean away hardened dirt.
Pressure Washing
Though this isn’t always necessary or even accessible for many people, pressure washing your porcelain paving is a great way to get deep into harder to shift dirt and to ensure the gaps between slabs are kept clean and sparkling. Dirt in the grout surrounding paving slabs can lead to crumbling or damage if left to sit for long periods of time.
Stronger Solutions
Whilst porcelain paving slabs are very easy to clean and maintain occasionally you may encounter some stubborn organic debris, such as leaves or animal droppings. If the soapy water method does not work then we have many low cost cleaning solutions available to remove any stubborn dirt and debris please contact us at info@premierporcelain.co.uk for more information.
